Why Are Phones Being Banned?
To address student distractions, schools have started to put blanket bans on cellular use, instead of phone restrictions handled on a school-to-school basis. Although students are accustomed to having phones around them, this brings up some issues with the phone exclusion.

History of Bans:
Starting in the early 90s with pager bans, phone bans have become increasingly popular over the past decade as students have been receiving their own cell phones, which school administrators see as a problem.

Types of Bans:
- Bell-To-Bell Bans: Prohibiting use from the beginning of the school day to dismissal
- Restrictive Use: Students can use their cell phones if needed or during activities like lunch
- Statewide Restrictions: Some states have specific rules that schools have to implement into their learning

How To Practice Safe Technology Use:
Being aware of your school's policies while also finding ways to incorporate phones into learning without them causing distractions. Also, learning guidelines like silencing your phone and stepping away if you need to take a call can be very helpful for instructors.
